What is an Analogy and how does it work ?

An analogy expresses the relationship between two sets of words in a way that shows the similarity between the things that appear to be different.
Cry : sad :: smile : happy

Analogies stimulate critical and creative thinking and can be used in all content and skill areas. They can teach and reinforce, as well as assess students' abilities to identify relationships and make connections.

Analogies are being used successfully in kindergarten through 12th grade today. They help students to learn problem solving and to think critically. The process involved in solving and creating analogies requires the following:

  • Actively process information
  • Make important connections
  • Use information and skills to identify relationships
  • Construct relationships and generate new knowledge, and improve understanding, comprehension, and long-term memory

Children in most classrooms already do analogous thinking in informal ways. Here we transform that thinking into a focused and systematic process. Several students, regardless of their academic ability are easily confused and frustrated by the ambiguity of puzzling situations, as they have not learned what to do when confronted by non-routine problems.

Our program is designed to help students in thinking out of the box and become independent logical thinkers.
